Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Aqikebulak of Shanshan County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It was named by the 2nd Regional Geological Survey Expedition under the Xinjiang Geological Bureau in 1965.


Lithology and Thickness

Clastics. Composed mainly of interbeds of grey-green and purplish red polymineralic sandstone, sandy conglomerate and siltstone, intercalated with limestone. Thickness of 376-800 m.

Coarse-grained sandstone


Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the underlying Aqikebulak Fm.

Upper contact

Unknown; no top part of the formation having been exposed. Chart indicates next younger preserved unit is Jurassic

Regional extent

Distributed in the center of the Aqikebulak Basin to the south of the Aiding Lake.

Fossils

Brachiopods such as Oldhamina sp.; and Bivalves such as Edmondia suvata, Pseudomonotis sp., and Allosisma aff. granasu.
